Professor teaching online class

Carolina professors are finding unique ways to facilitate collaborative environments that enhance the learning experiences of students in accordance with the limitations of the pandemic.

For example, UNC-Chapel Hill faculty are teaching 19 Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) courses in the 2020-2021 academic year. These courses, in partnership with universities in 12 countries, take advantage of virtual education settings to bring together students from all over the world to work together and learn from one another.

One course in particular, “Theatre and the Pandemic, Theatre After the Pandemic,” brings together students from North Carolina, Ireland and Northern Ireland to discuss how artists are continuing to create throughout these unprecedented times.

“This COIL program gives students the chance to learn about each other and to see that we have a lot in common, but there are also differences,” said Patrick Longergan of the National University of Ireland in Galway. “We’re excited to see how our students grow by working together.”
