A premier Chinese scholarship for the 21st century

“I loved my time in Singapore. It was the defining point of my studies,” said Larry Han, a UNC senior and Honors Carolina exchange program alum. “I returned to UNC and changed my focus to biostatistics. I knew I had found my true calling.”

Han, a Morehead-Cain Scholar, will follow that calling to Tsinghua University in Beijing as one of 111 inaugural Schwarzman Scholars. The innovative China-based program, modeled after the Rhodes Scholarship, bridges the academic and professional worlds to educate students about leadership and China’s expanding role in the world.

In Beijing, Han hopes to gain deep understanding of public policies that influence world health systems so he can make positive policy changes based on data.
