Brain Food (and Drink)

Science is at the core of many of today’s major issues and topics of debate and discussion. This is why we launched the Carolina Science Café, a program for adults that inspires a healthy interest in science through programming that explores headline-making scientific topics. We held our first Science Café in October 2007 in
a small room within the Morehead Building. Fred Stutzman, then a Ph.D. student in the UNC School of Information and Library Science, talked about Facebook, which was just becoming known to the world. Fast-forward a decade, and program attendance has increased 400 percent, with more than 60 professors and other experts sharing their research and refreshments. The program has featured MacArthur Fellows, New York Times-bestselling authors, U.S. National Academy of Sciences members and more.
