Dancing together for hope

“For me, UNC Dance Marathon means hope. It may seem cliché, but hope is what motivates every single person to stand together for 24 hours.”

Have you ever been on your feet for 24 hours straight? Senior Elizabeth Brown, Carolina for the Kids executive director, joined more than 1,800 UNC classmates who did just that in March 2017. They did it with more than 1,500 cups of coffee, 1,200 slices of pizza and the music and encouragement of 30 student performance groups. But mainly they did it knowing that their efforts to dance for a whole day would help others.

Carolina for the Kids Foundation‘s UNC Dance Marathon—2017 marked the 19th annual marathon—is the largest of many events sponsored by the foundation, a nonprofit that works to financially and emotionally support the patients and their families of UNC Children’s. Since the inaugural UNC Dance Marathon, Carolina for the Kids has raised more than $5.4 million, including more than $614,000 last year.
