‘Early Childhood Equity is Justice’

When Iheoma U. Iruka was a child, she knew she wanted to help people like her mom, who worked three jobs and was never home. Skip to her years of graduate studies, and Iheoma U. Iruka is now a research professor at the UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Public Policy and founding director of the Equity Research Action Coalition within the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute. She studies how to promote health, wealth, and educational excellence of minoritized children and children from low-income households.

When asked to describe her research in 5 words, Iruka said, “Early childhood equity is justice.”
