What is GiveUNC?
GiveUNC, March 24, is a day to leave your mark! Over the course of 24 hours, the Carolina community comes together to share its love for UNC-Chapel Hill. It’s a day dedicated to generosity and putting your passion for a school, unit or center into action.

Carolina’s biggest fans collectively contribute millions of dollars in support of the people, programs, experiences and the groundbreaking work of the Tar Heels here in Chapel Hill and across the world.

Who is involved?
The entire Carolina community participates in GiveUNC. From parents and students to alumni and community members across campus and around the country and faculty and staff to deans and directors here in Chapel Hill – Carolina gives us a reason to unite and create the biggest day of giving of the year.

Why should I give?
GiveUNC is your opportunity to make an even greater impact at Carolina than any other day. Gifts of any size can help unlock dozens of matches or challenge gifts, multiplying your impact. Your generosity goes further on GiveUNC.

How can you make an individual impact?
You can support the 15 schools and over 100 centers and institutes during GiveUNC — all engaged in innovative and creative work in research, education and service.

GiveUNC allows you to support the area of campus that matters most to you. Whether you’re passionate about scholarships, research, the arts, student support or community engagement, there’s a place for you to make a difference.

Will a small gift even make a difference?
Absolutely! On GiveUNC, every gift counts. Your gift of any size can unlock a vital challenge that will multiply the impact of your generosity. Small gifts add up quickly and together, they create real impact.

In 2025, we unlocked over $3 million in challenge dollars. We unlocked an additional $50,000 for the Asian American Center and $30,000 for the School of Social Work; more than $50,000 in additional support for the Institute for the Environment; and a generous donor matched gifts to support the Playmakers Repertory Company, raising a total of $100,000!

Are you competitive?
All day long, you have the opportunity to embrace your inner Tar Heel and compete in a little friendly competition. Schools and units compete for the top spot in total gifts and dollars raised.

Live leaderboards track the action in real time, showing schools and units rising in the rankings. You’ll be able to see your support make an immediate difference. There will also be live leaderboards for international donors and a map of the entire country tracking where gifts come from.

Be sure to check the leaderboards on March 24 to see who’s in the lead in total gifts and in total dollars raised and who might need your help.

What does being an ambassador mean?
Ambassadors help amplify GiveUNC by sharing it with their networks. Whether you’re an alum, student, board member or devoted Tar Heel fan, you can participate through our ambassador program.

What is the student event on GiveUNC and why is it important?
In the most bustling part of campus, students stop by the Bell Tower on March 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to participate in GiveUNC. Students can earn CLE credit, free merch and prizes and are able to watch their peers perform on stage. This event captures and celebrates what it means to be a Tar Heel, celebrating community, school spirit and the power of generosity while encouraging students to explore the impact of giving.
