Thomas Shea — a professor in the UNC School of Medicine and medical co-director of the UNC Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program — became a doctor because he thought it was the one profession that knew no borders. And he liked the idea of helping and healing people like Veatrice Harris, a leukemia patient who benefitted from an innovative procedure at the North Carolina Cancer Hospital.
