Research To Help All

Growing up, Tamera Coyne-Beasley always wanted to be a doctor, a dream that grew out of her community’s limited access to health care. So she studied adult and pediatric medicine to make an impact on this issue in a large-scale way. Her research on HPV and the importance of its vaccine earned her a position on the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, ACIP, the group responsible for vaccine recommendations in the U.S.

Her advice for future researchers in the medical field is to not be afraid of pursuing interests because of obstacles that may be ahead.

“Engage others, especially the underserved and underrepresented. It is only then, through inclusion and diversity, that your research can truly be excellent and transformative for all.”

While a resident at UNC, Coyne-Beasley was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar, which provided her additional training in research, public health and preventive medicine.
