What happens when a home health-care company partners with a leading school of nursing on an innovative model of immersive education? Nursing students, the home health industry and patients all benefit.

That’s the calculation that went into Well Care Home Health seeking to partner with Carolina Nursing to establish the Well Care Home Health Leadership Scholars Program. Through the privately funded program, the UNC School of Nursing gained critical salary support to retain rising star faculty member, Dr. Meg Zomorodi, who serves as the program’s director and liaison between Well Care and the school, as well as scholarship support for graduate students with an interest in the home health industry.

In turn, the students gain remarkable insight and experience in the home health field through focused coursework and intensive interprofessional clinical experiences, leading to exceptionally educated clinical nurse leaders who are prepared to improve systems and care for the ever-growing home health patient population.

“Our students gain on-the-ground experience and education with a dedicated eye toward assessing system strengths and areas for improvement,” said Dean Nena Peragallo Montano of the benefits of the partnership. “The genius of public-private partnerships like this one is that while our two institutions clearly benefit, the patients of North Carolina likewise benefit from our combined expertise on their behalf.”
